The Guardian Angels Catholic School Media Center is home to a wide collection of books and many Dell desktop computers. All of the computers are equipped with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher). Students 2nd through 8th grade have their own Google for Education accounts and learn to use Google for Education apps during computer class.
Kindergarten through 5th grade students visit the library weekly and are introduced to new information literacy concepts, such as parts of a book or research skills, and complete a related activity. Students then explore the library to make their book selections and check out.

According to the Enhancing Education Through Technology Act, the primary goal is to improve student academic achievement through the use of technology, as well as to “assist every student in crossing the digital divide by ensuring that every student is technologically literate by the time the student finishes eighth grade, regardless of the student’s race, ethnicity, gender, family income, geographic location, or disability.” The Michigan Department of Education defines technology literacy as “…the ability to responsibly use appropriate technology to communicate, solve problems, and access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information to improve learning in all subject areas and to acquire lifelong knowledge and skills in the 21st century.”
Technological literacy grows with proper use of equipment and applications by the student, through guided and creative activities planned by the teacher. Early lessons and activities are built upon later in the curriculum to enable students to more fully utilize the capabilities of these tools. They also allow us to access information related to our faith and mission, as well as a means of creatively demonstrating and expressing our faith.
